Entidex Bridge for Phone Systems

Know what your phone system does — and what stops working on 31 January — before anyone changes it.

A fixed-price, read-only survey of your phone system: every extension, number, line and call route, the support status of the platform, and a register of the alarms, lifts, door entry, fax and card terminals still plugged into old lines. Nothing on the phone system is changed.

Survey: available now, read-only. Call data, migration checks and supervised changes follow in 2027 and are labelled with their status below.

UK PSTN and ISDN switch-off

Openreach closes the copper phone network on 31 January 2027. Openreach: "there is no extension to the deadline."

Why now

The old network closes.
Some systems close with it.

Openreach is closing the copper phone network (PSTN) and the ISDN lines many older phone systems use. At the end of July 2026 about 1.5 million lines were still to move, including about 350,000 business premises.

31 January 2027

PSTN and ISDN close

Openreach has said there is no extension. Migration orders must be placed by 31 January, and orders with completion dates after 31 March 2027 will be cancelled. Single lines not moved in time go onto a temporary, paid holding service (eVAC) that Openreach says may not work for every line.

Plugged in, often forgotten

Analogue devices

Intruder and fire alarm diallers, lift emergency phones, door entry, fax, older card terminals, franking machines and telemetry often sit on a line nobody has labelled. They are the things that quietly stop.

Some already unsupported

The phone system itself

FreePBX 16, Asterisk 18, older Avaya IP Office releases and Panasonic systems are past or near the end of vendor support. A migration is the moment to find out what yours actually does. See the support dates, or your options if you run FreePBX 16.

Who it is for

Firms with an old phone system.
And the people who move them.

Bridge sells no phone systems, lines or handsets. The survey is independent of whoever supplies them, so you and your provider start the move from the same written facts.

Businesses

SMEs on an on-premises or ageing system

Wholesale, freight, small manufacturing, professional offices, surgeries and contact centres: any firm with a phone system on site, on ISDN or analogue lines, or past vendor support.

  • You need to move before 31 January and want to know what depends on the old lines.
  • Nobody can say which extensions, numbers and out-of-hours rules are still in use.
  • You want a record you own, not just a quote.
Partners

Telecoms resellers and MSPs

You are running the migrations. A missed fax line, alarm or out-of-hours rule turns into a repeat site visit and an unhappy client.

  • Run the survey under your own brand at partner licence prices.
  • Go into each migration with an analogue-line register and a call-flow map.
  • Partners never approve changes on a client's system.

What the survey covers

Ten sections.
One of them is the one that matters on 31 January.

The report covers objects, settings, counts and structure. It contains no call content, and caller numbers are hashed. You, or your reseller, review it before anything is shared.

  1. Platform and supportMake, model, software version and the server operating system, checked against vendor support dates.
  2. Extensions and usersEvery extension and user, including those with no calls in the capture window.
  3. NumbersEvery number and range, where it rings, and numbers still pointing at things that no longer exist.
  4. Lines and trunksSIP trunks, ISDN and analogue lines, and what each one carries.
  5. Call flowHunt groups, queues, menus, opening hours and out-of-hours rules, drawn as a tree.
  6. Call recordingWhether calls are recorded, where, how much and how old, and any card-payment pause. Settings and counts only: recordings are never opened.
  7. IntegrationsCRM, reporting and other systems connected to the phone system, and where call data goes.
  8. Security exposureManagement interfaces reachable from outside, default or shared admin accounts, and where credentials are stored. Locations only, never the values.
  9. Analogue line registerEvery analogue port, fax extension and line, labelled alarm, lift, door entry, fax, card terminal, franking, telemetry or unknown. Each stays "suspected" until a named person confirms it, with its 31 January exposure.
  10. Emergency callingSites and numbers with no emergency (999) address recorded.

1. Agree access

We agree a date and what is available: a read-only login or the system's own configuration export, recent provider bills and someone who knows the building.

2. Read, never write

The survey reads settings and, where the system can send call records, captures them for a short window (for example a week) to see what is really used.

3. Written report

You get the report and the analogue-line register as a checklist your provider can work through. You decide what to share and with whom.

Wrenfield Wholesale Ltd: a full sample

A complete survey report for an invented company with invented numbers: FreePBX 16 on an old server, two ISDN2 lines, an alarm line and a lift line on analogue ports, a number pointing at a deleted extension, and a site with no emergency address. Every section is shown exactly as a customer receives it. Nothing in it describes a real business.

What Bridge never does

Read-only first.
Some things, never.

These refusals are part of the product, not a setting. They apply to the survey and to every product after it.

  • Never changes the phone system during a survey. The survey only reads.
  • Never places, listens to or barges into calls. No call control at all.
  • Never opens call recordings. It counts and dates them; the audio stays closed.
  • Never submits a number port. It lists your numbers for your provider; your provider ports them.
  • Never changes 999 routing or emergency addresses. It reports gaps for a person to fix.
  • Never reports passwords or trunk credentials. Where they are stored, never what they are.
  • Never deletes extensions, numbers or recordings. Not in any product.
  • Never writes through admin screens, or to a platform without a supported interface, or beyond what your licence and the vendor's terms allow.
  • Never puts caller numbers in a report. They are hashed by default.
  • Never gives a partner approval rights. Changes, when they come, are approved by your own named people.

Questions

Straight answers.

Anything else: hello@entidex.com.

My provider offers a free switch-off audit. Why pay for this?

A free audit is usually the first step of a sale. The survey is an independent, written record of what your system does, including the analogue-line register and call flow, that you own and can hand to any provider. Many resellers run it themselves, under their own brand, for exactly that reason.

Does the survey change anything?

No. It reads settings, the system's own exports and, where available, call records. It writes nothing to the phone system and makes no calls.

Which phone systems can you survey?

Any on-premises or hosted system we can read: through a read-only login or interface where the platform has one, through its own configuration export or backup report where it does not, and through its call-record output. Systems with no supported read path, such as many older Panasonic and NEC models, are surveyed from their own reports, call records, bills and a walk-round of the site.

Is 31 January 2027 really the date?

Openreach has said there is no extension. Migration orders close on 31 January and orders completing after 31 March 2027 are cancelled. Single lines not moved in time, business and residential, go onto a temporary paid holding service (eVAC) that Openreach calls "temporary, limited and more expensive", so plan as if the old line stops on 31 January.

What happens to personal data and call recordings?

The report holds names of objects, settings, counts and structure. Caller and called numbers are hashed by default, recordings are never opened, and nothing leaves your site until you or your provider have reviewed it.

Do you sell phone systems, lines or migrations?

No. Entidex sells the survey and, as they become available, the data and reconciliation products. Your reseller or IT provider supplies the new system and carries out the move. Moving to Teams or 3CX? Our free migration checklist lists the checks that get missed.

Are the later products available?

Not yet. Call Data Out is due in beta in January 2027 and Migration Reconciliation in spring 2027. Joiners & Leavers is in development and not on sale. We will not take an order for a product before it is ready.
